VOA PNN
When running an organization of any sort, whether it be governmental, business related or educational, the employees are what make it run how it does and without good employees doing good work, many times a business or company will fail. However history and our current reality shows that people who do all the work are not always satisfied with their jobs, which can cause problems on every level of the organization.
There was a debate a couple of years back about VOA’s Persian News Network, or VOA PNN as it is most commonly known. There was a report filed by the State Department Inspector General regarding employee perspective on VOA PNN. Most of the employees of the PNN had voluntarily admitted that they do their job because it is required of them but their hearts is not in it.
Matters started out simply enough but the situation soon escalated with even more disgruntled employees stating that they were unhappy with the Persian News Network of VOA. From the accounts of some of the personnel it may very well be the most unpleasant job they have ever had. It appears that conflicts within the company were resolved by raising voices and shouting at each other, instead resolving issues in a professional manner.
Both the staff and management of the PNN at VOA had something to discuss on the matter, not all of which shared their opinion. However the majority did have problems within the Persian News Network and wanted to speak out. There was a disconnect however between employee satisfaction and the performance in their work. Although the staff seemed to be unhappy, VOA’s PNN did not see a decrease in work performance.
A dedication to the job did seem to be the entire reason behind overall performance, but it is always best to make sure that the people working for you are happy with their circumstances.
